In general, an airport has a straight and smooth runway. However there are some airports in the world which do not have such runway. The pilot controlling the aircraft at these airports must have been very skilled and trained, or else it will be fatal. Want to know which airport and what it's like? See the info below:

Saba Airport, Caribbean

The airport earned the name of the shortest runway airport in the world. It’s only 1,300 metres. The foundation is located above the ocean with cliffs all around. To land on the runway, the pilot had to fly the plane into a cliff before making a sharp left turn then the plane could land smoothly.

Paro Airport, Bhutan

Paro Airport, an airport located in a valley in the Himalayas, is a very challenging airport. It’s proved with only eight pilots in the world who have certificates to land at this airport. To land at the airport, the pilot should be able to conquer the mountain and then down quickly and turn to the left to steep. It is indeed due to the location of the airport which is surrounded by the peaks of the Himalayas.

Sea Ice Runway Airport, Antarctica

It is a dangerous airports but also unique at the same time. It’s unique for the existence of this airport should be carved above the Ross Island’s ice ocean each year. The airport has a 2,5 miles long runway and it is too dangerous for planes landing at this airport to sink more than ten inches into the ice. If not,it would be fatal.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla, Nepal

Located on Mount Everest, Tenzing-Hillary Airport has a terrible 460 m long and 20 m wide runway is because it has a slope at the end of the runway that leads directly to the valley. Flight at the airport was only done during the sunny day. This is due to the bad weather that often occurs near the airport which is reserved for the Everest mountainers.

International Princess Juliana Airport, St Maarten, Caribbean

The airport is adjacent to Maho Beach with a 2,180 m runway. The runway is short, moreover the airport is located between sea and hills so that the plane which will land at the airport need to fly low over Maho Beach waters so close.
