The Mutiara Airport, or recently renamed as Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport is the airport serving Palu and the main gateway into central Sulawesi. In 2014 this airport was upgraded and renamed to honour the local independence hero Sayyid Idrus bin Salim Al-Jufri (1892-1969).
Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport , most of these are operated by Lion Air. Many people take a flight to Makassar and transfer to another flight there.
The airport has one runway and a new terminal which was constructed in 2014. The old terminal was demolished to make way for the new apron. A plan exists to allow international flights to Mutiara Airport, to promote tourism in Central Sulawesi.
The Mutiara Airport is located on the southeast side of Palu city, about 5 km from the city center.
The airport is fairly close to the city (8 km) so a taxi is quite affordable. A taxi into the city will take about 20 minutes and costs Rp. 50.000 to 60.000 depending traffic and time of day.
