Domodedovo International Airport is one of three airports serving Moscow, along with Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo Airport. Domodedovo is with over 30 million passengers a year the second busiest airport in Russia.
The airport opened in 1965 and was build mostly to handle domestic long-distance travel within the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Union the airport was party privatized and is still the only private airport of Moscow. The new owners invested a lot in new terminals, improved facilities and floor space attracting many foreign airlines, causing a growth of 3 to 22 million passengers in ten years time and making Domodedovo one of the busiest airports in the country.

Domodedovo Airport has its own railway station making by train the quickest way to get into central Moscow. Nonstop Aeroexpress trains ply the route between the airport and Paveletsky Rail Terminal in central Moscow in 45 minutes (one-way ticket for 470 rubles). From the Rail Terminal it takes another 20 minutes by metro to get into the city center.
Bus: A cheaper but slower option is to take a bus ( Line 308) or minivans to Domodedovskaya metro Station (Metro Line 2). Fare is RUB 100 and travel time about 50 minutes. All buses depart outside Terminal Exit #2, they operate 24/7 but less frequent during the night. From the Domodedovskaya Metro station it takes another 40 minutes to get to the center by metro.
